Optometrist Peter S. Visendi, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Peter S. Visendi brings unparalleled expertise in contact lenses, pediatric optometry, and vision care to our team. He is globally recognized as a pioneer in the contact lens field, having co-developed the first soft contact lenses in the U.S. with Bausch & Lomb in 1972-73 and introduced enzymatic cleaning for soft lenses at the Mayo Clinic. His groundbreaking doctoral thesis on hydrophilic lenses, supervised by renowned physicist Dr. Irvine Fatt, revolutionized the industry.

As a dedicated educator, Dr. Visendi served as Professor of Optometry at UC Berkeley starting in 1978, inspiring students with his philosophy: “Great optometrists require two qualities: competence and love—putting patients’ interests first.” His students and peers regard him as a leader in the theory of light, vision science, and pediatric optometry.

Dr. Visendi is also an authority on facial dermatology and cosmesis, specializing in non-surgical treatments for eyelid and facial skin tightening, along with organic vitamin therapy.
